Pinon Hills graced the cover of Golf Digest’s Fodor’s’ “Places to Play” guide for almost a decade as the best golf value in the United States, and it still ranks among one of the best municipal golf values in the nation. At 5,300 feet above sea level, Pinon is a cross between New Mexico desert links and Scottsdale golf as it rises and falls through natural sandstone arroyos. Large three- and four-tiered greens punish mis-hit approaches, as do 54 huge bunkers. Awards include: Golf Digest, No.8 in New Mexico. In 2000 it got a 5-star rating by Golf Digest. 3 ½ hours northwest of Albuquerque.
