Coyote del Malpais Golf Course

If you like modified desert-links style golf virtually straddling the Continental Divide, tucked beneath scenic Mt. Taylor, the Coyote del Malpais Golf Course in Grants is your cup of tea. Coyote offers 18 holes and 16 lakes at 7,000 feet above sea level. The course is home to USGA qualifiers and a frequent venue for state high-school championships. Designer: William Howard Neff. Nearby attractions include El Morro Monument, containing rock carvings from the 1500s left passing Spanish Conquistadors, the Ice Caves, permanent ice deep underground, and a mining museum that records the history of coal and uranium mining around the area. Grants is on the edge of New Mexico’s “Indian Country.” To the east are Laguna Pueblo and Acoma Pueblo and Sky City, a mesa-top Indian village. To the north: Chaco Canyon, a world cultural heritage site, and the Navajo Nation. 70 miles west of the Albuquerque airport.
